I’m a person who loves using a Chromebook as a secondary device to my Mac.
Chromebooks are cool computers: they’re cheap, durable, and have excellent security. But there was one problem.
The keyboard isn’t in US layout.
Of course, if you purchase a parallel import, you can get a US keyboard layout, but in this case, you won’t be able to receive domestic warranty, which is a problem.
For example, in the case of ASUS:
Note on parallel imports Thank you very much for your continued patronage of our products.
ASUS JAPAN Co., Ltd. imports, sells, and supports Japanese domestic products with responsibility so that customers can use our products with peace of mind. Parallel imports are not covered by product warranty and support (*note).
Parallel imports may differ in specifications from Japanese domestic products and may have limitations for use in Japan. Also, as they are not domestic products, we cannot provide quality assurance or services. We cannot address any issues related to purchase. Please be careful when making a purchase. Thank you for your understanding.
*This does not apply to notebook PC products (including 2-in-1 products) as they are covered by international warranty.
*If you have any questions, please contact the ASUS JAPAN Call Center.
Probably other manufacturers have similar policies. Well, in Japan, the current situation is that only ASUS offers a variety of Chromebooks, so if you’re going to buy a Chromebook, ASUS is the only choice. If you want proper warranty coverage, it’s probably safer to avoid parallel imports.
Initially, I thought there wouldn’t be any Chromebooks with US keyboard layouts, so I bought one with a JIS layout, but when I searched properly, I found one.
ASUS Chromebook Flip C302CA (C302CA-ENG・Silver)
However, the price is not so friendly, in the 80,000 yen range.
I’m considering buying it when my current Chromebook breaks down.
If you want to purchase a Chromebook with a US keyboard layout, I recommend contacting the manufacturer directly. They will provide proper information.
